my favorite foods

I love food. Food is great. To be honest, I even find food fun. Which is why “dieting” is kinda hard for me. Fortunately, there are still some amazing foods you can eat even while eating healthy.

At least in the US, I feel like breakfast foods are the most unhealthy. Other than eggs and bacon, the common breakfast foods are cereal, french toast, pancakes, biscuits, etc. So it was hard for me to eat healthy for breakfast … until I came up with a go-to! My standard breakfast consists of an Oikos Pro Yogurt (20 grams of protein with no added sugar) topped with homemade granola, two eggs on two slices of bread (Dave’s Killer Bread), and some kind of fruit. If we have it on hand, I’ll also add some turkey bacon, sausage, or ham. It’s delicious, easy, and not very expensive. My mom stocks up on the bread when it’s bogo and buys whatever fruit is in season.  I think she’s planning to share her granola recipe with you soon!

I’ve also recently discovered making overnight oats with protein powder and my mom begs me to make it weekly. Sometimes it’s my chocolate peanut butter version and other times cinnamon toast crunch.

I think the biggest overall problem people have with eating healthy is thinking they can only have bland, boring food, like salad with chicken. There is nothing unhealthy about seasoning your food. Also, you don’t have to entirely cut out foods you like. Some foods have easy, healthy variations. Lasagna can be healthy when you swap the pasta for thin slices of zucchini. I do feel like people take this too far, though. Some food is better kept as a rare treat instead of trying to transform it into something else.

Some healthy foods also have endless variations, including stir-fry, burrito bowls, and wraps. I think the real secret to healthy eating is creativity. If you don’t love salad, try to find one or two ingredients that make it exciting and experiment with salad dressings. Explore equally healthy options that you might not have known existed. Take time to enjoy your food. Food is a blessing to be savored not a curse to be choked down. Now let’s go eat something fun and healthy.
