thanksgiving

Sometimes I feel like Thanksgiving gets lost as Christmas and New Years threaten to take over the holiday season. But it’s a great time to thank God for his provisions, and, yeah, I enjoy the food. Every year my family and I make a traditional American Thanksgiving feast! I mean, we do it all, from stuffing to mashed potatoes, turkey to ham, pumpkin cheesecake to my mom’s nostalgic cranberry jello.

I don’t know if Abraham Lincoln thought of this or not, but it’s a lot easier to be thankful surrounded by the best food. But it’s important to also be thankful in the harder times where we might not have too much to be thankful for. There are always going to be parts of our life where it feels like everything isn’t going according to plan. But, through it all, God is faithful and worthy of our thanksgiving.

I realized a while ago that I am very prone to ask for things, but, when or if I get what I asked for, I forget to be thankful for it. I just move on. That’s not good. A way to fix this and be more thankful this holiday season is to just … slow down. Take more time to be intentional and count your blessings. You might just find that you realize you have a lot more than you thought. Now, I’m off to heat up some leftovers.
