“free” summer movies

I remember a time when free summer movies at the theatre were actually free instead of $1. But, hey, that’s still pretty good and a really fun way to stay cool.

Today, my mom and I went to watch the movie IF for only a couple of dollars. Even though that movie came out last year, we never actually got around to watching it. I have to say . . . I was happily surprised.

When I saw beforehand that the cast included John Krazinski, Ryan Reynolds, Steve Carell, and Brad Pitt (in a unique way), I knew it couldn’t be too bad—but I did not know what treat I was in for. This isn’t a movie review blog, but the movie had genius elements that were thought-provoking enough to leave you feeling intrigued and still full of questions but not annoyed that you didn’t get all the details of the plot. In fact, I’m looking forward to watching it again soon with both my parents.

Certain themes like growing up, imagination, and grief seem understated in the media sometimes, and when they are talked about, they can seem forced and fake. There’s a lot more I could say, but I don’t want to spoil the movie for anyone that hasn’t watched it. I hope someone out there is inspired and watches IF. It was a very surprising gem of a movie.

Until next time,
