the cardio dilemma

Cardio is a big part of working out. It’s very good for your heart and is a great way to burn calories. But in my opinion … cardio isn’t fun. I mean some people like it, and if you’re one of those people then maybe you should stop reading … (jk, don’t do that, I love you guys!!) But there is absolutely nothing appealing to me about sweating buckets while moving at fast speeds all to burn like 100 calories after. That’s an apple. A really small apple.

But cardio is pretty necessary, so here are a few ideas to jumpstart your cardio game if you’re getting a little bored of running.

Jump Rope: This is actually one of the highest burning calorie exercises there are. In just 20 minutes you can burn over 200 calories. Of course you can’t jump rope for as long as you would normally run, but this is a very fun way to spice up your next workout.

Team Sports: I’ve never really been into team sports, not gonna lie. I’ve tried a couple different sports, but I never found one that I really clicked with. They are a great way to get in cardio, however, so if this is your thing, then boom. Especially if you have practices more than once or twice a week. That’s consistent cardio right there.

Boxing: Now, I don’t mean actual boxing fights, I mean the training for a boxing match. Just hitting the bag for a while is tiring and burns a lot of calories. I personally like this method of cardio because it’s fun and easy to do if you have a punching bag or really anything you can punch without getting too hurt.

Swimming: I used to do swimming on a team, which I stopped, but I still like swimming occasionally. You burn a good many calories while also having a lot of fun. The water gives you so much friction that just moving around and splashing is so much better than just sitting on your behind watching YouTube …

Watching a Workout Video at Home: Now, if you’re an introvert and don’t want to crawl out of the comfort of your home and go to workout then just watch a workout video at home. This can be CrossFit, a bodyweight calisthenics workout, a dance lesson, or anything else that just gets you moving while still allowing you to vibe in your jammies.

Anyway, that’s all for today, I hope I gave you guys some motivation to try out some new cardio. Even if you’re like me and you don’t love cardio there are a lot of options, so get up, go out there, and burn some calories! Yes, like, right now.

One response to “the cardio dilemma”

  1. Don’t forget all of the mental health benefits of cardio (says your therapist Auntie)! Longer periods of deep breathing, building self-efficacy of continuing through something that feels challenging, releasing endorphins which will globally build your outlook on self and life in general, and many more…
