I know a lot of you might not like the title of this post, but it is really true. I’m not saying you should be all-out grinning through your whole workout, but a certain sense of enjoyment leads to better workouts. I really enjoy the Incline Dumbbell Press, so I’m going to use heavy weights and really push myself. But on an exercise that I don’t enjoy as much, like Rear Lunges, I’m going to use lighter weight and kind of phone it in. Of course, you can’t love every exercise, and sometimes you have to just push yourself and get it over with. But if you’re doing a workout plan that you don’t enjoy, filled with exercises that you hate, you aren’t going to get that good of a workout.
Here are a couple ways to enjoy training in general a little bit more:
- Switch up your workout plan or training split a little bit
- Do something random for a day like try a new HIIT workout
- If you really are dreading all your workouts take a couple days to not think about working out. Do some active recovery like training your abs or doing some cardio. Then get back into training with renewed vigor
To be honest, enjoying your workouts it’s a very mental thing that you have to work through on your own. I just want to make it clear that everyone faces this at some or many points during their fitness journey. Just remember, keep going, it will get easy. And if it doesn’t and you keep going, it’ll feel twice as rewarding in the end. Trust the process.
